About

My Great Grandmother and I share our name and a love of dishes and dinner parties.  I still ask my Grandma questions about her Mother, her dishes, silver-plate and what she liked to cook and bake.  I love talking to my Mother and Grandmother; with my Mother I just blather.  With my Grandma, we exchange family news and then get down to business: what we baked this week, what dinners we made or food brought along to friends.  I hope to share here what I share with my Grandma Ruth on an at least weekly basis: what I have cooked, baked and what dinner parties, luncheons or teas I hosted.  If one could have a home-philosophy, as many seem to do in decorating, of minimalism, then my home-philosophy would be maximalism (i.e. the opposite of minimalism).  Dishes - I have 3 buffets and kitchen cupboards full.  Cookbooks overflow my bookshelves.  Pots, Pans, kettles, cake, torte and bread pans... I have plenty.  My Husband says giving me tea is like bring coal to Newcastle.  My pantry is a glorious 4x5 closet with shelves, full to overflowing.   I told my Husband years ago about Kathleen Norris' story about the Catholic Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower, as she is called.  When St. Therese was a child, she was offered a ribbon (the person offering had various ones) and she said "I choose ALL" and ever since I told Mr. Husband this story, he says to this about myself: "I like all the ribbons."
